Gnetum (cao gắm) for gout: does the Tay ethnic remedy work? How to use and where to buy
The most talked-about Vietnamese folk remedy for gout.
Cao gắm is a thick extract of Gnetum montanum vine, a Tay/Dao ethnic remedy from Hoa Binh. Vietnamese studies note flavonoids and resveratrol with anti-inflammatory and mild uric-acid-lowering effects — supportive, not a replacement for drugs.
Use
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) in 200 ml warm water after breakfast and dinner
- 1–3 months, then measure
Cautions
- Bitter; take after food
- Not in pregnancy or liver disease
- Real extract is dark, glossy, pliable; fakes are sugary
Fair price 100–150k per 100 g.
